Solution one-liner

State in one sentence what you built and how it removes the specific pain named in the hook. No feature list, no roadmap.

YC's pitch coaching treats the solution as a single sharp sentence that resolves the hook, roughly 10-15 seconds inside a memorized 3-minute pitch.

Include
  • A direct callback to the hook's specific pain
  • The mechanism in plain words (what it does, not how it's built)
  • One number showing the size of the improvement
  • Language a 10-year-old could repeat
Cut
  • A list of five features
  • Technical architecture detail
  • Buzzwords like 'platform' or 'ecosystem' with no concrete meaning
Red flags a reader notices
  • The solution sentence does not obviously answer the hook's problem
  • It takes more than one sentence to say what the product does
  • There is no improvement number tied to the old way of doing things
Pitfalls behind them
  • Describing the solution as a category ('we're a platform for...') instead of an action
  • Burying the one-liner inside three sentences of context
  • Forgetting to state the before/after improvement
60-second self-test
  • · Does my one-liner use a verb that shows what changes for the customer?
  • · Could I say this sentence to a stranger at a bar and have them get it?
Template
[Product name] lets [customer] [do the thing] in [new time/cost] instead of [old time/cost].
Weak

"We're building a seamless, all-in-one platform for the future of work."

Strong

"Nimbus Payroll lets a founder pay a contractor in 96 countries from Slack in under 60 seconds, instead of 9 days through a bank wire."

The one-liner directly answers the Lagos-founder hook and gives a before/after number: 9 days to under 60 seconds.

Quick quiz

1. What should the solution slide directly connect back to?
  • The team slide
  • The specific problem named in the hook
  • The competitive landscape
  • The closing line

A solution that doesn't resolve the exact pain from the hook breaks the narrative thread the room is following.

2. Which is the strongest solution one-liner?
  • We're reimagining global work.
  • We offer a suite of HR and payments tools.
  • Nimbus Payroll lets a founder pay a contractor in 96 countries from Slack in under 60 seconds.
  • Our platform is an ecosystem for the future of payroll.

It names the action, the reach (96 countries), the tool (Slack), and the speed (under 60 seconds).
